@holtbt @CoolAssPuppy @ashleymcnamara @Ubiquiti For example - can turn off dhcp server, can't choose wifi channels, can't visualise or choose backhaul connections

@holtbt @CoolAssPuppy @ashleymcnamara @Ubiquiti I can only agree on the Orbis... Interface sucks! I stupidly decided to give the google wifi mesh a go..... Works OK but gives you almost no ability to configure it, treats you like a complete tech newbie

@holtbt @CoolAssPuppy @ashleymcnamara @Ubiquiti Yeah, the Orbis we got were catastrophically bad. They went back to the store inside a few weeks.

@ashleymcnamara @adhall_nz @Ubiquiti I went all the way to a full UniFi system, and it’s the only thing that has even come close to working in what must be a very challenging RF environment. We were going through WiFi systems about one a year for over a decade trying to find one that works in our house.

@rudyrichter I’ve got Amplifi. Not sure about it being recommended...? It’s ubiquiti’s (unifi) consumer kit. A little too black box for my liking. I’m thinking of buying unifi gear to replace it.

Mini review of my new @Ubiquiti USG router to replace the broken ERLite. https://t.co/oQP0JcVGgH TL;DR - it's nicer, easier to setup and integrates nicely with the Unify Controller but avoid the beta screens.

@ashleymcnamara @Ubiquiti Unifi Dream Machine works perfectly fine in my house.

@bgalbs @Ubiquiti I’m watching for wi-fi 6e gear which is about to roll out. Ubiquiti stuff is all still 802.11ac which is like 7 year old tech at this point

Amazing difference just switching my router from the Linksys Velop to the @Ubiquiti UDM Pro. Can’t believe I kept putting this upgrade off.

@Scott_Helme @Ubiquiti SERIOUSLY, why is @Ubiquiti so perfect in every way

@Viss Sucks to hear I've been a fan of theres and heard decent things about the support, perhaps @TomLawrenceTech has a video or idea that might be able to help, he does a lot of pfsense and ubiquiti videos. Currently I'm dealing with way overpriced Fortigate and bad software/support

@ashleymcnamara @Ubiquiti I have the dream machine pro. It’s great tons of features like PoE that’s not commonly found in consumer products.

Hi @Ubiquiti any hints about when will "UniFi Switch Aggregation PRO" may become available? :D Need a few for a project and it never seems to be available via early access. Thx

@ashleymcnamara @Ubiquiti I have 2 U6 lites and an IW HD and I’ve never had better WiFi. Anywhere. The new wifi 6 alien is probably a solid choice.

@ashleymcnamara @Ubiquiti I just switched to the TP-Link Deco system from AmpliFi HD, and I highly recommend it! If you have a Costco membership the AX3000 system is $100 off right now (:

@ashleymcnamara @Ubiquiti I use Deco and it’s been a great experience.

@NateTheFinch @ashleymcnamara @Ubiquiti This is where I landed when I couldn’t easily run wires in my house and my USG died. I sold of my ubi gear. I hate giving into google here tbh, but it was the best choice at the time.

@CoolAssPuppy @ashleymcnamara @Ubiquiti I've been impressed with the latest ASUS routers both from a usability and technical standpoint. It's what I'd buy. I have a NETGEAR Orbi network and I'll never buy from them again. https://t.co/NQPzYcUunn

@Scott_Helme @Ubiquiti Be very interested to know your thoughts on these as currently looking at these v the next cam.

@Ubiquiti hi! i think your airlink simulator is broken. it keeps making me sign in, but i'm already signed in. i tried signing out and back in, but it didn't help. i keep losing my work. thanks!

@ashleymcnamara I think Alien is good but the criticism is that one of the backhauls (?) is WiFi 5, not 6, and it's $379 per unit to extend the mesh. There's the Eero Pro 6 that people seem to like ($599!), and then the standard suggestion to add Ubiquiti APs instead of going mesh.

@ashleymcnamara @Ubiquiti Unpopular opinion: Google Nest Wifi. I have the previous version, they work great, and only took 5 minutes to set up. It's not "hip" but it's been zero headaches for many years, and has the basic features that are all most people need.

@Scott_Helme @Ubiquiti There’s been some debate but this is the gayest post ever

@ashleymcnamara @Ubiquiti Definitely interested in what you decide. I need to make this decision for the Portugal house and want something where I can install/configure a router-level VPN.

@ashleymcnamara @Ubiquiti Maybe not helpful, but I upgraded to an Amplify Alien. The Amplifi HD is in a box somewhere gathering dust. If the Ubiquity Dream Machine was available with wifi 6 I likely would have grabbed that.

@ashleymcnamara @Ubiquiti Oh no. Is there something specific wrong with it? I have the same system but I'm looking at the Alien.

@ashleymcnamara @adhall_nz @Ubiquiti I upgraded a three point HD Mesh to a three point Alien Wifi 6 and it's been a dream.

I got bored at home and decided to finally go to @microcenter and buy the @Ubiquiti equipment I’ve been wanting for the perimeter and wired portions of our home network. https://t.co/WFngYEse8r

@sedward5 @ashleymcnamara @Ubiquiti @lyoko37 @geteero Yeah I like my eeros too.

@ashleymcnamara @Ubiquiti Channeling @lyoko37: If you want something a little less hands on than ubiquiti you might want the new @geteero Pro 6.

@reluctanteng @Ubiquiti @mikrotik_com once i factory reset it, it accepted the prior backup file without clobbering the owner, so... neat. i forgot to backup the camera configs though, and that was a major PITA involving disassembling them to hardware reset

@reluctanteng @Ubiquiti @mikrotik_com with a UDM Pro, 24 port Switch, 7 APs, and 8 cameras, I’m pretty locked into Ubiquiti gear until my next upgrade cycle, so making the best of it but tbh, i do love it, and the owner account switch turned out to be easy enough.

@ashleymcnamara @Ubiquiti @FirewallaLLC Oh! Also, the ASUS is like half the price of the AmpliFi Alien *and* can optionally run open source firmware based on OpenWRT if you're into that sort of thing. 🙂 https://t.co/euWJiFz3Ei (I don't fiddle with it myself, but I like knowing I have the option)

@ashleymcnamara @Ubiquiti I literally have 2 of them doing nothing. Ping me offline if you want to try them out before you buy, via work or DM channels. https://t.co/Ym8CfljXju

@ashleymcnamara @Ubiquiti I replaced my AmpliFi HD 4-node mesh (walls in my house eat WiFi) with the ASUS RT-AX92U 2-node and thanks to WiFi 6 I have way more throughput and far more WiFi coverage all over the house. I'm very happy with the setup along with my @FirewallaLLC Gold. https://t.co/88ouOQUzKk

@ashleymcnamara @Ubiquiti What do you have now? If you have the HD Mesh, then the Aliens are great, much faster. Or you could go Prosumer if you want to be geeky and do Dream Machines. Or go full geek and use pfSense. If you want to go Alien I have a pair in a cupboard, can get to you to try :)

@ashleymcnamara @Ubiquiti I have a trio of WiFi 6 Orbis, they work well and are reliable but I don’t feel blown away esp for the $$$. _might_ be worth holding out a few more months for WiFi 6E routers

@bgalbs @Ubiquiti Been there... Tried that. I mainly use @mikrotik_com now. They have similar (i.e. ripoff) hw as Ubiquiti

@yaleman43381258 @jsleeio @NewtonMark Even the Unifi gateway only got workable DHCPv6 support about 12 months ago. @Ubiquiti have a very 'eclectic' attitude to fixing bugs and supporting new technology in software.

With the demise of @Ubiquiti mFi, what are you doing for small-scale monitoring and automation?

@crosstalksol @HikvisionUSAinc I use @HIKVISIONUK and just swapped from a DVR to NVR and find the unit rather noisy in my office, especially as I’v just swapped my Cisco home network for a whisper quiet @Ubiquiti set-up, maybe there is a fan upgrade.

This ubiquiti thing however, that's a fully paid product that just stops working and you dear customer, now it's your job to document everything lest you will be ignored by 1.3 support people they hire for 10h a week because costs.

@crosstalksol Chris have you used Hikvision at all, if so how does it compare to the Ubiquiti kit?

@Ubiquiti hey guys, RE. #EU53719. any chance of a reply to my emails; 15/01/21, 13/01/21, 11/01/21 no reply?!

@malief46 Having worked in higher education and with other companies I've seen all of them. It's whatever teams feel comfortable with and meet their requirements. Cisco, Aruba, Mist, Meraki, Ruckus, Extreme, Ubiquiti. The only commonality here is getting a strong foundation in Wi-Fi.

@jens_myrup Same SSID, two APs both wired, @Ubiquiti Dream Machine and Lite AP.

@IanMorris78 @Scott_Helme @Ubiquiti Although, looking at HikVision pricing for IP cameras vs. Ubiquiti, I can see the price of cost of cameras being a prohibitive factor.

@bgalbs @Ubiquiti This is why I went back to pre-Amazon eero. Not enough time to deal with Ubiquity quirks. Every issue I ran into was hours of poking around.

@Scott_Helme @Ubiquiti Thanks, still a work in progress! About to start your Pi-hole setup, then when finished I need to figure out how to IoT enable my air con unit https://t.co/7kCSj0qXCT so it can auto cool this stuff!

@Scott_Helme @Ubiquiti I just about finished my upgrade with kit I purchased last year. Was thinking about the storage upgrade but concerned about cooling. Don’t want to run aircon all day! https://t.co/z7k6yejeuQ

@runtmancleaves @Scott_Helme @Ubiquiti Favorite part of the EdgeMax UI is that for the most part it has no IPv6 support unless you are using the config tree

I just found out @Ubiquiti has an office in Broomfield and if they had an open position, I'd add that to the list of places I'd want to work at.

@staengfoenster @Scott_Helme @Ubiquiti Nice, thank you sir! I'm replacing WiFi in 9 offices and was tempted to go U6 APs... This has convinced me!

@JodiWishMN @dizwire Costco sells Cable Modems. We have had a good experience with 2 Motorola Arris ones. Our Ubiquiti router has been solid but there a many with great reviews.

@dp_rkdm @Scott_Helme @Ubiquiti I have replaced HD/SHD and nanoHDs, was totally worth it! 😊 Most of my WiFi clients are 2x2 (Apple) anyways, no speed degradation for ac gear here, ax clients gained speed.

@staengfoenster @Scott_Helme @Ubiquiti So worth replacing a LR with a U6-Lite then? The specs seemed to suggest the same as what you've just said 😊

@dp_rkdm @Scott_Helme @Ubiquiti I‘ve got U6 LR (GA models) and U6 Lites. Installed them before Christmas, have been running completely stable and fast ever since. Getting 900+ Mbps with an iPhone 11 Pro and the LRs. Lites do around 800.

@DarkSprouty @Scott_Helme @Ubiquiti Yeah got a few Micros! They're awesome.

@bgalbs Ubiquiti hardware is really solid but the software is a mess. I have 2 products at home (AP and Edge Max) and both use different web ui and controller. Updates, security, configuration is all set up differently

@gindaanis I've yet to see any issues with wyze cameras if you're fine with using cloud services - though our network/internet is pretty stable. Ubiquiti is a brand you can look at if you want something that can be self-hosted - I use them at home and work quite successfully.
